The Wine: Yann Bertrand Fleurie Vieilles Vignes Beaujolais 2021

Yann Bertrand Fleurie Vieilles Vignes Beaujolais is a complex and layered Gamay by one of the most respected estates in the region. Beaujolais at its best.

The Producer: Yann Bertrand

Originally from Fleurie, Yann Bertrand did not always plan on becoming a winemaker. His journey into the world of wine started after spending time in the French Alps and working in wine bars and shops, where he met passionate individuals in the industry. This experience sparked his interest in winemaking, leading him back to Beaujolais. There, he learned from influential producers like Jean Foillard, Yvon Metras, and Jacques Neauport.

The Bertrand family vineyard, Grand Pré, spans 7.5 hectares with vines aged between 30 and 110 years, situated on sandy granite soils. Adopting organic practices early on, the vineyard achieved organic certification in 2013. Yann himself farms 1.5 hectares biodynamically. Known for his exceptional Gamay, Yann Bertrand is now a prominent figure in Beaujolais winemaking.

In response to small harvests, he launched a négociant wine line in 2016, adhering to strict vineyard management and winemaking standards, including using native yeasts and no chemical treatments. This initiative underscores his commitment to quality and sustainability in winemaking, further establishing his reputation in the region.

The Region: Beaujolais

The Beaujolais wine region is located south of Burgundy. It stretches for about 50km from the town of Mâcon and its characteristic rolling hills to the flatlands bordering the regional capital and world-renown culinary center Lyon on the north.

Beaujolais wine region is split in two by the Nizerand River. The north of the river is where we find the Crus and Beaujolais Villages, whereas south of the river is where Beaujolais and Beaujolais Nouveau are made.

Gamay is the dominant grape varietal of the region giving its best when grown on the granite and sandy clay soils north of the Nizerand River and made into Beaujolais Crus and Beaujolais Villages easy-drinking delicious wines.

There are ten Beaujolais Crus where the best Beaujolais are made: Brouilly, Chenas, Chiroubles, Cote de Brouilly, Fleurie, Julienas, Morgon, Moulin-a-Vent, Regnie, and Saint-Amour.

Shipping & Returns

Shipping Policy

Stress-Free Shipping

At Primal Wine, we like to be transparent about everything we do. When it comes to buying products online, shipping is the most important aspect, and that’s why we take great care in shipping and handling your order using only 100% recycled packaging material.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package gets returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee to be determined based on shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive, we are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to re-route a package after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a $25 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancelling fee – the amount depends on how big the order is. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat damage

WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR HEAT-RELATED ISSUES. WE OFFER ICE-PACKS AS ONE OF OUR SHIPPING OPTIONS. PLEASE SELECT THAT OPTION SHOULD YOU THINK THAT THERE COULD BE HEAT-RELATED ISSUES.

Placed an order. What next?
