Tasting notes

Vivid ruby with violet highlights. The nose offers ripe red cherries, wild strawberries, and a distinct mineral undercurrent with a touch of spice. On the palate, concentrated fruit sits alongside fine-grained tannins and crisp acidity, giving the wine both immediate appeal and the structure to develop further in the cellar.

Domaine de la Voûte des Crozes Côte-de-Brouilly 2024 is a red Cru Beaujolais made from 100% Gamay grown on the mid-slopes of Mont Brouilly, a prehistoric volcanic massif in the southern Beaujolais. The vineyards, planted at a density of 10,000 to 12,000 vines per hectare on schist and diorite soils locally known as "roches bleues," face east and northeast. Grapes are hand-harvested and fermented as whole clusters with natural yeasts in stainless steel cuves, followed by traditional carbonic maceration. The wine then ages for at least nine months in large oak foudres before an unfiltered bottling. Domaine de la Voûte des Crozes Côte-de-Brouilly 2024 is certified Terra Vitis and produced with minimal sulfur additions.

Poulet de Bresse, duck confit, rabbit with mustard sauce, charcuterie, country-style pâté, lentil salad with smoked bacon, grilled lamb chops.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Domaine de la Voute des Crozes

Domaine de la Voûte des Crozes has been a family estate in Cercié, on the slopes of Mont Brouilly, for more than eight generations. The domaine traces its origins to 1861 and today farms around 7.5 hectares of Gamay, including parcels with vines over 100 years old, planted at a density of 10,000 to 12,000 vines per hectare on east- and northeast-facing mid-slopes.

Nicole Chanrion grew up working the vineyards alongside her father and trained formally at the viticultural school in Beaune before a brief internship in the Napa Valley, where, in her own account, the experience reinforced her appreciation for traditional Beaujolais methods rather than redirecting her toward them. She took over the domaine in 1988 at a time when convention still largely kept women out of winery cellars. Working every stage of production herself, from vine pruning and tractor work to winemaking and bottling, Nicole built a reputation for wines of genuine depth and consistency. In 2000, she became president of the Côte-de-Brouilly appellation, a role that reflected the standing she had earned among her peers over more than two decades. She is known locally as "La Patronne de la Côte."

Her son Romain joined the estate after completing an engineering degree, bringing a focus on parcel-by-parcel terroir expression and expanding the estate's range to include the sparkling "Effervescence" cuvée and the white "Perle de Gamay Blanc." The estate holds Terra Vitis certification and applies lutte raisonnée farming practices throughout. Winemaking remains traditional: whole-cluster carbonic maceration with natural yeasts, malolactic fermentation, minimum nine months in large oak foudres, and unfiltered bottling with minimal sulfur additions.

Domaine de la Voûte des Crozes is one of the reference producers for the Côte-de-Brouilly appellation, and their wines reflect both the volcanic character of Mont Brouilly and the commitment to craft that has defined the estate across multiple generations.

Wine region

Beaujolais, France

Côte-de-Brouilly is one of the ten recognized Cru appellations of Beaujolais and among the most geologically distinctive wine zones in all of France. The appellation covers roughly 320 hectares across four communes: Cercié, Odenas, Quincié-en-Beaujolais, and Saint-Lager, and its boundaries align almost entirely with the flanks of Mont Brouilly itself. Where the neighboring Brouilly appellation spreads across the gentler lower slopes and surrounding plains, Côte-de-Brouilly occupies the steeper mid-slopes, making it the second most steeply inclined cru in the region after Chiroubles.

What sets Côte-de-Brouilly apart from every other Beaujolais cru is its bedrock. While most of Beaujolais sits on granite, Mont Brouilly's subsoil is composed of ancient magmatic rocks formed roughly 380 million years ago: schist, porphyry, and a distinctive diorite known locally as "pierre bleue de Brouilly" or "bluestone." These thin, stony soils drain freely, limit vine vigor, and force roots deep in search of nutrients, resulting in Gamay of noticeably higher concentration and structure than what is grown elsewhere in the region. The volcanic mineral character of these rocks translates directly into the wines' pronounced mineral spine and firm but refined tannic framework.

Vineyards face multiple orientations on the hill, giving producers access to a range of microclimates. The appellation's elevation, ranging from around 226 to 443 meters, and its sheltered position help moderate temperatures during the growing season. Côte-de-Brouilly wines are among the first harvested in Beaujolais due to the slope's capacity to accelerate ripening, yet they consistently show more structure and aging potential than most other crus in the region.

Mont Brouilly is also recognized as a geological heritage site and forms part of the UNESCO Global Geopark Beaujolais. The summit chapel of Notre-Dame aux Raisins, built in 1854, remains a symbol of the appellation and a gathering point for local vignerons each September.
