Fernweh

Fernweh Wine Co is a small California project built around a German idea: the brand's name is a word that translates roughly as a longing for far-off places, a wanderlust that founder Sebastian Lowa carried with him from Berlin to Southern California.

History and People

Fernweh was founded in 2020 and is based in Los Angeles. Founder Sebastian Lowa grew up in Berlin, Germany, and now lives in Southern California; the distance between those two places is the emotional core of the label.

The Region

The wines are drawn from vineyards in Santa Barbara County on California's Central Coast, including sites such as Martian Ranch in Alisos Canyon.

Vineyards and Farming

Fernweh works with biodynamic and organic farms in Santa Barbara County, choosing growers who tend their vines without synthetic inputs.

Winemaking

The approach follows a less-is-more, minimal-intervention philosophy aligned with natural winemaking, letting the farmed fruit speak with little manipulation in the cellar.

The Wines

The portfolio includes bottlings such as Kontakt, a Grenache Blanc from biodynamic fruit at Martian Ranch, alongside other Central Coast varietal wines.
