Tasting notes

This is Lambrusco in its most honest form: bone-dry, bracingly tart, and lightly fizzy with cranberry, raspberry, and a faint floral note from the Grasparossa grape. The ancestral method gives it a mousse that is softer and more textured than Charmat-produced alternatives, and the zero-sulfite, unfined approach keeps it alive and a little wild in the glass.

Folicello 'G. Turbo' is a bone-dry sparkling rosato made from 100% Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro, grown on the composite clay, silt, and sand soils of Castelfranco Emilia in the Province of Modena. The estate, run by Marco and Antonella, has been farmed organically since the early 1980s without synthetic chemicals, herbicides, or pesticides, and holds both organic and biodynamic certification.

The wine is made using the ancestral method: grapes are hand-harvested, directly pressed to extract fresh color and fruit, then fermented spontaneously with indigenous yeasts. The wine is bottled mid-fermentation, completing its secondary fermentation in bottle. The result is a lively frizzante with a fine, persistent mousse and a natural haze from lees contact. No sulfites are added at any stage.

Lambrusco Grasparossa is the most tannic and structured of the Lambrusco varieties, with a flavor profile driven by tart red fruit, particularly cranberry and raspberry, alongside a characteristic floral note. As a rosato made by direct pressing, 'G. Turbo' expresses the grape's bright acidity and fruit without its darker, more extracted side.

Released as a non-vintage wine under the Lambrusco Emilia IGT designation, this is best served well chilled at 45-48°F and consumed within a year of release. The natural haze in the glass is lees in suspension — turn the bottle gently before pouring if desired, or leave it to settle.

The high acidity and dry finish make this an excellent match for cured meats and salumi — Prosciutto di Modena, Mortadella, or a simple board of Parmigiano-Reggiano. It also cuts through the fat of fried foods well, making it a natural alongside fritto misto or fried squash blossoms. Serve it cold alongside a classic Bolognese ragu or pizza with tomato and mozzarella.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Folicello

Folicello (officially Il Folicello Società Agricola S.s.) is a family estate at Via Sparate 16, Castelfranco Emilia, in the Province of Modena, Emilia-Romagna. Marco and Antonella founded it in the early 1980s with the straightforward goal of producing wine for themselves and their friends without chemical inputs. What began as a small private project has grown into a recognized natural wine producer, though the approach in both vineyard and cellar has not changed across four decades.

The estate holds both organic and biodynamic certification. Marco and Antonella farm entirely without synthetic chemicals, herbicides, or pesticides, and their practices extend beyond EU organic requirements to include solar-powered energy generation, water conservation, and use of fermentation marc to produce vine treatments on-site. Their daughters Federica and Irene have joined the operation: Federica handles communications and administration alongside Antonella, while Irene manages graphics and foreign customer relations. In addition to wine, the estate produces organic grape juice, jams, and vinegar from estate fruit.

All Folicello wines are produced without added SO2 at any stage, including at bottling. The estate grows indigenous Emilia-Romagna varieties including Lambrusco Grasparossa, Pignoletto, Montuni, Trebbiano, Malbo Gentile, and Moscato, all vinified with spontaneous indigenous yeast fermentation. 'G. Turbo' is made using the ancestral method, with secondary fermentation completing in bottle, and is bottled unfined and unfiltered. The estate also won recognition at the Concorso Vini Bio dell'Emilia Romagna in 2006 for its Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro DOC Amabile.

Wine region

Emilia-Romagna, Italy

Emilia-Romagna stretches across northern Italy from the Adriatic coast westward toward the Apennine Mountains, covering approximately 53,000 hectares under vine. The region divides broadly into two halves: Emilia to the west, centered on the food and wine cities of Parma, Modena, and Bologna; and Romagna to the east, better known for Sangiovese and Albana. The Province of Modena, where Folicello is based, sits on the flat alluvial plain of the Po River valley. Soils in this zone are composite deposits of clay, silt, and sand laid down by rivers descending from the Apennines, retaining moisture and lending structure to the wines grown there.

Lambrusco is Emilia-Romagna's most recognized grape family, accounting for the bulk of the region's production, with five DOC designations dedicated to it: Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro, Lambrusco Salamino di Santa Croce, Lambrusco di Sorbara, Modena, and Reggiano. Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro, grown south of Modena in thirteen communes at roughly 60 meters above sea level, is considered the most tannic and full-bodied of the Lambrusco varieties, with clay-loam soils contributing to its structure and deep color. Wines sold under the Lambrusco Emilia IGT designation — the category for Folicello's 'G. Turbo' — fall outside the stricter DOC geographic requirements but allow producers greater flexibility in winemaking style, including ancestral method and zero-sulfite production.
