Tasting notes

Pale salmon-pink with a lively, clear appearance. The nose is fresh and precise: red cherry, watermelon, raspberry, and a faint floral note. The palate is dry and light-bodied, with juicy berry fruit, gentle minerality, and a clean finish underlined by Zweigelt's characteristic soft tannin structure.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Christina Netzl

Weingut Franz & Christine Netzl is a family estate in Göttlesbrunn, in the heart of the Carnuntum wine region, with roots going back to 1860 when the property operated as a mixed agricultural farm producing grains, pigs, and sugar beets. The shift toward viticulture came in the 1980s when Franz and Christine Netzl took over from Franz's father and began focusing on grape growing. The estate now covers 69 acres, the majority planted to vines.

Christina Netzl, daughter of Franz and Christine, completed studies in wine management and marketing in London in 2007 and returned to join the family operation. Her arrival marked the beginning of a gradual shift toward organic viticulture, which began in 2010 and resulted in full organic certification from the 2022 vintage. The Christina label, launched as a sub-brand, reflects her personal approach: low-intervention winemaking with clean, direct fruit expression and minimal additions in the cellar.

The estate's vineyards are planted predominantly with Zweigelt, which Franz Netzl is credited as one of the early champions of in the Carnuntum region. The variety accounts for the majority of planting and is used for wines ranging from fresh rosé and everyday reds to the single-vineyard Rubin Carnuntum-level bottlings. Soils across the estate's sites range from loess and gravel to clay, depending on the vineyard.

For the Christina Rosé Zweigelt, grapes come from the Holzweg vineyard, where red gravel and loess provide good drainage and contribute to the wine's mineral freshness. The approach in the cellar is minimal: hand harvest, a few hours of skin contact, direct press, stainless steel fermentation, lees aging, and bottling without fining or filtration. Christina Netzl pairs the wine with her own smoked trout, a nod to the estate's straightforward, regional character.

Wine region

Burgenland, Austria

Carnuntum is a wine region in the far east of Lower Austria, stretching from Vienna's outskirts to the Slovakian border along the southern banks of the Danube. It received DAC (Districtus Austriae Controllatus) status in 2019, becoming one of Austria's youngest officially recognized appellations. The total vineyard area covers around 2,200 acres, making it one of the smaller Austrian DAC regions, with roughly 150 wineries operating within its boundaries.

The vineyards extend south of the Danube across three hilly zones: the Leitha Range, the Arbesthaler Hills, and the Hainburg Mountains. Soils are varied, shaped by centuries of Danube activity, and include loess, loam, gravel, sand, and clay in different combinations depending on the site. At the Holzweg vineyard near Göttlesbrunn, where the Netzl estate's Zweigelt is grown, red gravel and loess are the defining soil types, providing good drainage and mineral character.

The climate is continental with a strong Pannonian influence from the Hungarian plain to the east, bringing hot summers with high sunshine hours and above-average grape ripeness. The Danube to the north and Lake Neusiedl to the south moderate the heat, extending the growing season and helping grapes retain acidity alongside their natural fruit concentration. Cool nights prevent overripening, preserving freshness in both red and white varieties.

Zweigelt is the dominant red grape in Carnuntum and forms the backbone of the region's identity. It is used for the Rubin Carnuntum quality mark, a regional certification for Zweigelt-based reds that emphasizes fruitiness, structure, and typicity. Blaufränkisch, Grüner Veltliner, and Chardonnay also perform well here. Carnuntum has a long history of viticulture dating to Roman times, when it was one of the most important Roman settlements on the upper Danube, a heritage now preserved at the Carnuntum Archaeological Park near Petronell.
