Tasting notes

Deep ruby-purple with a dark, opaque core. The nose is generous and earthy, with blackberry, dark cherry, thyme, carob, wet earth, and a mineral, slightly balsamic undertone. On the palate, medium-bodied with lively tannins, bright acidity, concentrated dark fruit, subtle oak, and a long, herb-tinged finish.

  • Style: Dry, light-to-medium-bodied still red; where the GT Garrut Ancestral is the fresh, sparkling version of this grape, the still GT Garrut 2021 is its more structured sibling — four months on lees in stainless steel followed by 20 months in oak barrel give the wine depth and complexity without robbing it of the freshness and bright acidity that Garrut consistently produces; this is a chillable red with real intensity and a dark fruit core, well-suited to serve between 58°F and 62°F throughout a meal
  • Grapes & terroir: 100% Garrut (a Catalan Mediterranean variety related to Monastrell/Mourvèdre, also known locally as Monastrell del Litoral); old, low-yielding vines on the Sitgetí farm, grown on loamy-clay, limestone, and stony soils in the Massís de Bonastre, Baix Penedès, Tarragona, Catalunya; organically and biodynamically farmed with all vineyard work done by hand using animals rather than machinery
  • Winemaking: Hand-harvested; 100% destemmed; three-day skin maceration with punchdown every three hours; indigenous yeast fermentation in stainless steel for four months on fine lees; 20 months aging in oak barrels; bottled unfined, unfiltered; no added sulfites at any stage
  • Serving temperature & decanting: Serve slightly chilled at 58–62°F; brief decanting of 15–20 minutes opens the wine well
  • Pairing: Fideuà (the traditional Catalan noodle dish cooked with seafood in the style of paella)
  • Similar to: Mourvedre-based wines from Bandol in their dark fruit character but in a lighter style, natural Monastrell from Jumilla, Mencía from Bierzo

Partida Creus GT Garrut 2021 is a dry still red wine made from 100% Garrut, a traditional Catalan variety related to Monastrell and Mourvèdre, grown organically and biodynamically on the Sitgetí farm in the Massís de Bonastre, Baix Penedès, Catalunya. The loamy-clay, limestone, and stony soils support old, low-yielding vines worked entirely by hand. Massimo Marchiori and Antonella Gerosa of Partida Creus harvest by hand, desteem fully, and macerate for three days before fermenting in stainless steel for four months. The wine then ages 20 months in oak barrels before being bottled unfined, unfiltered, and with no added sulfites. 13% ABV.

Fideuà, Korean galbi, grilled lamb chops, chorizo, wild boar stew, paella valenciana, roast duck, lentil stew, aged Manchego, calçots amb romesco, grilled octopus.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Partida Creus

Partida Creus was founded in 2001 by Massimo Marchiori and Antonella Gerosa in the village of Bonastre, in the Massís de Bonastre within Baix Penedès. The two came to wine without formal training in enology — both were architects from the Langhe region of Piedmont who had lived in Barcelona and eventually chose the countryside over the city. Their background meant they came with no inherited assumptions about how Catalan wine should be made, which turned out to be an advantage: they saw the old, neglected vineyards around them not as obstacles but as raw material.

The farm is worked entirely without machinery where the vines are concerned. Massimo has spoken about the mule Vincenza and the horse Orazio as essential collaborators in the vineyard — the plots are too small and the rows too narrow for anything mechanical. Every vine is pruned, trained, and harvested by hand. The approach to soil is equally deliberate: no chemicals, no synthetic inputs, biodynamic practices timed to lunar phases, and vineyards maintained on calcareous clay and stony soils that drain well and keep yields naturally low.

In the cellar, the GT Garrut 2021 is one of the most labor-intensive wines in the range. After harvest, the grapes are fully destemmed and macerated for three days with punchdowns every three hours — a hands-on process that requires constant attention. Fermentation runs for four months in stainless steel on fine lees before the wine moves to oak barrels for a further 20 months. Nothing is added at any stage: no sulfites, no fining agents, no filtration. Partida Creus call it "zero-zero."

The estate now produces over 100,000 bottles annually across a range spanning more than 20 indigenous grape varieties, all coded by two-letter abbreviations on the label.

Wine region

Penedès, Spain

The Baix Penedès sits at the southern, coastal end of the Penedès DO in the Province of Tarragona, Catalunya. It is the warmest and lowest-lying of the Penedès sub-zones, where the Mediterranean Sea's moderating influence is most direct and summer temperatures regularly reach levels that only thick-skinned, drought-resistant varieties can handle with ease. Garrut — the local name for Monastrell or Mourvèdre in this coastal zone — has been grown here for centuries precisely because it thrives in these conditions.

Within Baix Penedès, the Massís de Bonastre stands apart from the surrounding countryside. It is a limestone and clay upland massif, rising above the coastal plain and the alluvial flatlands that surround it, characterized by poor, rocky soils with low organic matter and minimal water retention. Vines planted here are naturally stressed — they produce low yields but concentrate flavor and develop thick skins, both of which are critical for still wines that undergo skin maceration and extended oak aging. The combination of the warm Mediterranean climate at the macroscale and the altitude and soil drainage of the massif at the microscale gives producers in this specific pocket of Baix Penedès access to a terroir that the broader plain cannot replicate.

The Penedès DO as a whole has recently made history as the first wine appellation in Spain with 100% certified organic production across its members — a reflection of a cultural shift that began with individual producers in the early 2000s and has since spread across the region. Historically, Penedès was dominated by Cava production and by the white grapes required for it: Xarel·lo, Macabeu, Parellada. Red varieties, including Garrut, were systematically reduced after phylloxera and were nearly lost by the time producers like Partida Creus began seeking them out in neglected hillside parcels.
