Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Meinklang

Meinklang is a Demeter-certified biodynamic estate run by the Michlits family in Pamhagen, in the Neusiedlersee area of Burgenland, situated within the UNESCO World Heritage Site of National Park Neusiedlersee. The name is a combination of the German words for "my" and "sound" — a phrase that reflects the family's intention to work in rhythm with the natural world rather than impose on it. The estate began as an organic farm in the late 1980s and has since grown into one of Europe's largest biodynamic operations, spanning approximately 2,500 hectares across the Austrian-Hungarian border.

Three brothers manage distinct areas of the farm: Werner handles the vineyards and cellar alongside his wife Angela, Hannes oversees the cultivation of ancient grain varieties, and Lukas manages the livestock. Their parents, Anneliese and Werner Senior, made the original shift to organic farming and later achieved Demeter certification in 2003. When the Hungarian border opened following the fall of communism in 1989, the family expanded across it, developing a fully integrated agricultural ecosystem on both sides.

At the center of Meinklang's philosophy is the closed-loop farm. A herd of more than 300 Angus and Aubrac cattle, whose image appears on every wine label, provides composted manure that replaces synthetic fertilizer across the vineyards. Sheep, pigs, and chickens add further layers of biodiversity, while ancient grains such as Einkorn, Emmer, and Spelt are cultivated alongside the vines. The family also produces a Demeter-certified heritage beer from those grains and has founded a Waldorf school in the region.

The Tag and Nacht series represent Meinklang's most focused experimental work, using single varieties from specific plots and fermentation vessels to explore the full range of what their estate can produce. All wines are vinified with spontaneous native-yeast fermentation, no chaptalization, no reverse osmosis, and bottled without fining or filtration.

Wine region

Burgenland, Austria

Burgenland is Austria's easternmost province, running along the Hungarian border from the Danube basin in the north to the Styrian foothills in the south. It is the country's warmest wine region, governed by the Pannonian climate: hot, dry summers with long sunshine hours, mild autumns, and cold winters. That warmth drives consistent grape ripeness, while cooler nights help preserve natural acidity.

The region's most defining geographic feature is Lake Neusiedl, a shallow steppe lake roughly 22 miles long and no more than 6 ft deep. The lake moderates growing-season temperatures and generates autumn humidity that promotes noble rot development along its western shore, making Burgenland internationally known for botrytized sweet wines such as Beerenauslese, Trockenbeerenauslese, and the rare Ruster Ausbruch. The area surrounding the lake, known as Neusiedlersee, is also Burgenland's most important zone for dry red and skin-contact wines.

Soils across the region are varied. In Neusiedlersee, sandy loam and clay dominate, draining freely and warming quickly in the sun. Further south in Mittelburgenland, iron-rich clay soils underpin the region's most powerful expressions of Blaufränkisch, while Leithaberg to the west brings limestone and schist into the mix, producing tighter, more mineral whites and reds.

Grüner Veltliner, traditionally associated with Lower Austria, also grows across Burgenland, where the warmer Pannonian climate produces richer, more textured expressions than those found further north. Producers like Meinklang have pushed the variety into skin-contact territory, using carbonic maceration and concrete aging to craft orange wines that bear little resemblance to the crisp, peppery style most associated with the grape.

Burgenland is home to a particularly active natural and biodynamic winemaking community. The dry climate keeps disease pressure low, making organic viticulture practical, and a growing group of producers committed to minimal intervention has earned the region international recognition beyond its historic reputation for sweet wines.
