Chile never experienced phylloxera, so many of these vines remain on their original rootstock. Luyt sources from small independent farmers who dry farm organically and plow with horses, practices that are uncommon in a country dominated by large industrial operations.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe Maule Valley has a Mediterranean climate with pronounced diurnal temperature swings driven by cold Andean air at night. This extends the growing season and preserves acidity in the grapes. Soils vary across the valley and include decomposed granite, red clay, loam, and gravel deposited by the Maule River.
