The wine is labeled Vin de France. FX named the cuvée for his daughter Margot, who was born during the 2018 harvest. Production is tiny — only around 300 bottles were made in the first vintage.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e2019 was FX's final vintage working at Domaine Matassa alongside New Zealander Tom Lubbe. It was a punishing year in the eastern Roussillon: temperatures spiked to 118°F (48°C) at the end of June, causing sunburn that destroyed more than half of the potential crop. The wines that survived the vintage are concentrated and structured by the heat stress rather than diminished by it.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIn the cellar, FX works with only naturally occurring indigenous yeasts. His approach is minimal intervention throughout: no fining, no filtration, and only a low dose of sulfur added prior to bottling. The Syrah vines in the Agly Valley are planted on schist soils, which are characteristic of the area around Espira-de-l'Agly and contribute a mineral backbone to the wine.
