bourgogne-blanc-chateau-de-grand-pre-burgundy-natural-wine
Bourgogne Blanc NV

Château de Grand Pré's Bourgogne Blanc is 100% Chardonnay sourced from clay and limestone soils in the Beaujolais region. Winemaker Romain Zordan deliberately sources Chardonnay from these limestone parcels rather than the estate's own granite-dominated Fleurie vineyards, which he considers better suited to Gamay. The grapes are hand-harvested with sorting both in the vineyard and cellar.

Vinification follows a non-interventionist approach: fermentation with native yeasts only, no added yeasts, no fining, and no filtering. The wine is labeled as Bourgogne Blanc — an appellation legally accessible to Chardonnay grown in the Beaujolais zone — rather than Beaujolais Blanc.

The result sits on the richer, rounder end of the spectrum for unoaked natural Chardonnay: a slightly creamy texture with notes of ripe pear, almond, lemon meringue, and stone fruit, balanced by fresh acidity. Minimal sulfur is used only when the vintage demands it, keeping the wine as clean and unmanipulated as possible.

The estate has been certified organic through Ecocert since 2012. Romain Zordan, grandson of founders Louis and Renée Bertrand, also has a working relationship with Jean-François Ganevat of the Jura, who purchases Romain's grapes for select cuvées — a signal of the fruit quality coming out of this small 8-hectare domaine.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0019/3363/9735/products/chateau-de-grand-pre-bourgogne-blanc-burgundy-natural-wine-primal-wine.jpg?v=1630818117
