The fruit comes from  vines planted above the town of Occidental in 1994 by Al and Virginia Rago, about three miles from the Pacific at 850 feet elevation, the oldest planting of Syrah on the Sonoma Coast .  The wine was vinified using native yeasts for primary and malolactic fermentation, with 100% whole cluster, and aged 11 months in neutral French oak .
