The Wine: Tasteful in Nature 2018
Ruth Lewandowski Tasteful in Nature is a sparkling natural wine made from 100% Muscat grapes from Lost Hills Ranch in the Yorkville Highlands. Evan Lewandowski describes it as "Not sweet or flowery or soapy...in fact the inverse of all of that. Skin fermentation lends an altogether savory, five spice-laden, textural version of bubbles not just for toasts and weddings. Try making this the wine for the main dish…Not as the forgettable ‘arrival wine.’ On second thought, go ahead and serve it at the wedding and offend the new in-laws :)"
The Producer: Ruth Lewandowski (Evan Lewandowski)
Evan Lewandowski is a talented winemaker based in Utah who makes natural wines under the label Ruth Lewandowski. His winemaking philosophy is based on the cycle of death and redemption, in the physical and the spiritual realms. The name Ruth is not from any of Evan’s female family members but from one books in the Bible, the book of Ruth – Evan’s favorite.
Evan believes that: “Death is, indeed, the engine of life. Nothing that is alive today could be so without something having died first. This is the nature of our universe, of our planet, of our soils, plants, and ultimately you and I. The labels for all three wines are likely making a little bit more sense now, the death of each animal and the life springing forth because of it.”
Evan decided to establish his winery in Utah after having fallen in love with the place during his college years – he attended the University of Utah.
