The Wine: Rorick Vineyard Chardonnay 2016
This outstanding single-vineyard California Chardonnay, from the Rorick vineyard in Murphy’s, is made from Chardonnay vines planted in the late '60s. These are ungrafted vines of Wente Chardonnay clones. Cruse Wine Co. winemaker Michael Cruse vinifies the grapes adopting a hands-off approach in the cellar, The wine is aged for about 16-18 months in wood barrels.
The nose is fine with dried grass, pear, and some roasted hazelnut. The palate is bright but still with the oily mouthfeel and concentration typical of Rorick Vineyard Chardonnay. Michael Cruse is a true master in capturing the spirit of a place and this Chardonnay is a pure and clean, expression of the site.
