It is Arnot-Roberts' coldest Syrah site, farmed without irrigation on sedimentary clay-loam soils. The Fellom Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon comes from  an exposed ridgetop at 2200 feet elevation in the Santa Cruz Mountains above Silicon Valley .  The site was replanted between 1980-1983 with Cabernet Sauvignon cuttings from the Charles Krug Winery in the Napa Valley, and the old, cane-pruned vines struggle in the harsh environment and low-nutrient soils, generating thick skins and naturally low yields.
